Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris said on the first day of the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday that she will forever be grateful to President Joe Biden. The national convention to confirm Harris as the official nominee will be held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, for four days from Thursday. On the first day, Biden plans to use his speech to stress that former President Donald Trump is a "threat to democracy" and explain why Harris should win the upcoming presidential election. Prior to Biden, his spouse Jill Biden and daughter Ashley will also be on the stage. Harris will deliver an acceptance speech for presidential candidates on the last day of the convention on July 22.

As the camera projected Harris' face at around 8 p.m., delegates, party members and supporters shouted "Harris" at the scene. Harris' campaign song and pop star Beyoncé's song "Freedom" were played at the scene. "This is going to be a great week. The U.S. is moving forward," Harris said to Biden, who endorsed Harris after giving up his bid for reelection last month, adding that she is grateful for his historic leadership in serving the country for a long time. Harris plans to stay in Chicago for the entire four days during the party convention. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, her running mate, showed up at various delegation and party gatherings from Wednesday morning to engage with supporters. "When we fight, we will win," Harris said. "Let's declare victory with one voice in November."
