Lee Jung-jae 'Star Wars' series 'the acolyte' canceled production of Season 2
Season 2 production of Disney+ "the Acolyte," a "Star Wars" series starring actor Lee Jung-jae, has been canceled.
According to the U.S. media Deadline on the 19th (local time), production company Lucasfilm decided not to produce season 2 a month after the end of the first season of "Acolite."
Deadline called the decision "not surprising." Critics didn't say it was bad, but the performance was below expectations. Thanks to the popularity of Star Wars, "Acolite," which garnered 4.8 million views on its first day of release and was named the best-performing series on Disney+, dropped to sixth place next week. It did not find its name in the top 10 list in Week 3.
"Disney+ has a high ratings threshold to continue a large budget series with production costs well over $100 million per season," Deadline said.
"Akollite" is a mystery action thriller about an unprecedented Jedi serial murder case at a time when it was called the golden age of the Jedi Knights defending peace, and the emerging dark forces in the secret and truth behind it. Lee Jung-jae joined the "Star Wars" series and drew attention from Korean fans as well. Season 1 of the eight-part series was released from June 5 to July 17.
