Michelle Obama "Hope Is Coming Back...Let's go further and higher." [U.S. Democratic U.S. National Convention]
"Don't complain. Let's do something"
Targeting Trump "collusion is not the answer...It's not even like a president." The quality is on fire
Michelle Obama, wife of former U.S. President Barack Obama, appealed to the U.S. on the 20th (local time) that "hope is coming back" and said "let's do something about it" for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
Speaking at the second day of the Democratic National Convention held at the United Center in Chicago, Mrs. Obama said, "I have no other choice than Kamala Harris and Tim Walz (vice presidential candidate)."
"Only Kamala knows that invisible commitment makes America great," Obama said of Harris. "It's time to stand up for what we think is right."
Mrs. Obama, whose hometown is Chicago, mentioned the death of her mother on her last visit to her hometown, explaining that she took the speech stand to honor her mother's sacrifice. She said that the virtue of her mother's usual volunteer work at a local school and helping her neighbors was planted in her values.
"My mother has shown me the meaning of humility and dignity," Obama said. "She has raised my moral compass high and demonstrated the power of my own voice."
Like other speakers, Michelle Obama also criticized former President Donald Trump, a Republican presidential candidate.
Describing former President Trump as an "ugly, misogynistic and racist liar," he stressed that "no one deserves to monopolize justice for Americans" in reference to his pinpointing of the background of Vice President Harris, who was an immigrant.
"Over the past few years, former President Trump has used his power to scare people," he said. "I feel threatened by the recent existence of two successful black women with bigoted views of the world."
After criticizing former President Trump's racist remarks, he said, "Going small is not the answer, it is not sound, and frankly, it is not like the president."
Then, Mrs. Obama stressed that the presidential election in November would be "a close game," and then emphasized, "Let's keep this country moving forward and let's go higher."
"Harris is one of the most qualified presidential candidates," he said, appealing to Harris to join him in winning the vice presidential election, saying, "Let's do something instead of sitting down and complaining."
Mrs. Obama has been a popular and influential figure among Democrats since she left the White House with the retirement of former President Obama in January 2017. Her charismatic and passionate speech for about 20 minutes drew enthusiastic responses from the audience.
