Jennifer Lopez-Ben Affleck files for divorce on wedding anniversary

 

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, who have been called the "Bennifer" couple and have been in the spotlight, have officially begun divorce proceedings.

On the 20th (local time), Lopez filed a lawsuit in the Los Angeles County Superior Court asking for an end to his two-year marriage, CNN and others reported.

Lopez listed the separation as April 26 this year in his complaint to the court. He reportedly filed for divorce without going through a lawyer.

CNN explained, "It coincides with the anniversary of the two's wedding in Riceborough, Georgia in 2022."

The two married in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022. More than a month later, on August 20, they had a grand wedding outside of Savannah, Georgia, in a traditional way.

The possibility of divorce was raised in May this year. Rumors began circulating that the two were having problems in their marriage. It was a time when Lopez was separated from Affleck while promoting his movie and preparing for a national tour. Affleck was staying in Los Angeles to film.

It was reported that the two were separated and speculated that they were in the process of divorce. Lopez canceled her summer tour, saying she would spend time with her family. They sold their house in Beverly Hills.

Recently, they were spotted on different beaches. Lopez celebrated her birthday at a Bridgerton-themed party late last month, but Affleck reportedly did not attend the event.

They said it was "difficult every day" due to different personalities and approaches to life as public figures, the entertainment magazine People reported in May, citing sources.

The couple's love history has drawn attention for decades, including during their marriage.

The two first met 22 years ago when they appeared in the comedy movie "Giggly." In the movie, they became friends while playing a criminal who was locked in a workplace together, before developing into a couple.

They got engaged for the first time in November 2002. Affleck proposed to Harry Winston with a custom 6.1-carat pink diamond ring. He also appeared as Lopez's lover in the music video for his single "Jenny from the Block" in 2002.

They postponed their wedding for several days ahead of their wedding in September 2003. They cited "excessive media attention" surrounding their wedding. There were rumors that they were resting, but they officially separated in January of the following year.

Lopez married Mark Anthony in 2004 and divorced in 2010. He later dated choreographer Casper Smart and American baseball star Alex Rodriguez. He became engaged to Rodriguez.

Affleck split in 2018 after marrying fellow actor Jennifer Garner in 2005.

Lopez has two children with Mark Anthony and Affleck has three children with Jennifer Garner.

Lopez and Affleck revealed their reunion in July 2021, when they released a photo of themselves together on Instagram. It was two months after Lopez broke up with Rodriguez.

"I'm so lucky, happy and proud to be with him," Lopez said of his reunion with Affleck in an April 2022 People interview, adding, "It's a beautiful love story that we got our second chance."
