As earthquakes of magnitude 5 or greater occur in Japan every day, concerns over the "Nankai Sea Valley Earthquake" are growing that it will come every 100 years.

The Japan Meteorological Agency announced for the first time the "Temporary Information on the Nankai Trench Earthquake" on the 8th, judging that the possibility of a major earthquake off the Pacific coast was greater than usual after a 7.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Nichinan City, Miyazaki Prefecture, southern Kyushu.

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Kanagawa Prefecture, the western metropolitan area of Tokyo, Japan on the 9th, and a magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck 476 km north-northeast of Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, Japan on the 10th.

The Nankai Trench earthquake temporary information is divided into large earthquake alert and large earthquake caution, and this time a large earthquake warning has been issued at low risk levels.

According to Kyodo News and local public broadcaster NHK, the Japan Meteorological Agency lifted temporary information on the Nankai Sea area earthquake as of 5 p.m. on the 15th, saying "no major earthquake-related abnormalities were observed."

The Japanese government declared the end of temporary information on the same day, but asked for confirmation of evacuation routes and food stockpiling in the future, as the possibility of a major earthquake has not completely disappeared. Disaster Prevention Minister Yoshifumi Matsumura told reporters, "Please continue to be prepared in normal times."

The Nankai Trench in the Pacific Ocean is a magnitude 8-9 earthquake. It occurs every 100 to 150 years, and as it occurred in 1946, it is estimated that there is a 70-80% chance of occurrence within the next 30 years.

In this case, it is analyzed that up to 323,000 people will be killed by a tsunami of more than 10 meters in height from Kanto, Honshu Island, to Kyushu.
