The World Health Organization (WHO) declared a World Public Health Emergency (PHEIC) at its Geneva headquarters on the 14th (local time) to prevent the global spread of Empox, according to foreign media such as the Associated Press and Xinhua News Agency.

Empox refers to monkeypox and is a rare disease caused by infection with monkeypox virus.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus explained the reason for the PHEIC declaration at a press conference in Geneva, saying, "Today, our emergency committee accepted the proposal because it suggested that the spread of international transmission constitutes a global public health emergency."

PHEIC is the highest transmission alert under international health law, Tedros said.

"It is a level that the world should all be wary of and the potential transmission of M.Fox, which is spreading beyond Africa right now, is a very concerning situation," he added.

According to WHO statistics, the number of cases reported this year by Empox has already exceeded 14,000 cases and 524 deaths in the past year.

The WHO's declaration came shortly after the African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) declared a state of emergency over the transmission of M.Fox in Africa.

"We are now fighting not just one, but several virus clades, different variants that evolved from a common ancestor and different pathogens of different risk," Tedros said in his first address to the emergency committee.

The European Union's Health Emergency Response Agency (HERA) also released a statement on the 14th, saying that the European Union's executive branch plans to produce 175,420 servings of the MVA-BN vaccine and donate it to Africa in the future.

Separately, Danish-based pharmaceutical company Barbarian Nordic Sado will soon donate 40,000 doses of the M.Fox vaccine to HARA.
